東京

Tokyo has a million places to grab a bite or a drink, many of which are excellent! Here are some of my favourites!

波の 自由が丘店 (Namino Jiyugaoka)

I have been to Namino more times than I can count! While the Jiyugaoka branch of Namino specialises in いくら, aka. salmon roe, I come back for the exceptionally tasty salmon. My usual order is a rice bowl with raw salmon slices as topping and 上いくら (jyou ikura) on the side. That type of roe has a bit less fishy taste and the roe are of larger size. Both the topping and side are served in separate bowls, and then you dump whatever you want to on top of the rice, or eat it out of separate bowls. Your choice! The wasabi is tasty and they use カキ醤油 (kaki shouyu) which is soy sauce with oyster sauce mixed in.

They also offer ねぎトロ (minced tuna with scallions) which is served in a half-cut bamboo branch, and the taste is fabulous!

And finally, as a “dessert”, they offer a small bowl of rice topped with one of three types of egg yolk. I have only tasted the yuzu yolk as I am usually stuffed to the brim after eating the main course. They say that the chickens are fed yuzu in some sort of form, and that makes the yolk taste like yuzu. And it does! Absolutely fantastic.
